WHAT IS YOUR NAME?
CONTRACTIONS
I am = I’m
What is = What’s
It is = It’s
Contractions are words made by combing two words together. For example, the contraction for “I am” is “I’m”. The meaning does not change, “I am” is the same as “I’m”. The only difference is the pronunciation. Contractions are used all the time, so it’s important to know them.
I recommend NOT to use contractions when speaking. A lot of students do not pronounce them well. If you see a contraction like “I’m” just pronounce it as “I am”. It will be much easier for people to understand that way. I say this, because students forgot to pronounce the last letter. For example, they will say “I” instead of “I’m”. So, if you see “I’m” just say “I am”.
